Early History of MIZPAH JEWELRY
Historical MIZPAH Rings came into fashion in Old Great Britain and Early America during The Victorian Era, defined as those specific years of Queen Victoria’s reign in England (1837-1901).
Historians often divide the reign of Britain’s longest reigning monarch into three parts:
1) The Early Victorian or Romantic Period
2) The Middle Victorian or Grand Period
3) The Late Victorian or Aesthetic periods.
This Mizpah Ring was crafted during The Early Victorian Romantic Period (1837-1860). These times reflected the great love of a nation for its young Queen who showed much love for her husband, Prince Albert. During this time, the Great Industrial Revolution surged forward.
Mass production factories then came about and jewelry was no longer made strictly by hand after the 1860's.
*FABRICATION & TIMEFRAME ANALYSIS
A time period evaluation of this Ring's fabrication reveals it has a 2-part Hand-Crafted seamed construction. The lettering is hand-punched to create a 3-D affect. The flowerey vines are hand-stamped.
Close scrutiny of centuries-old jewelry-making techniques used inside/outside this ring reveal it's timeframe by these factors....
There's an interior inlay of a separate smooth flat gold round band... which is melded together with the lettered rounded exterior top piece... these two separate Gold parts are both made individually and are handcrafted.
The melded interior band has a distinct visible 'two part 'edging all around clearly indicating the ring was not made from a mass produced 'one-pour' liquid gold into a wax mold as was typically done after the mid-1850's.
Therefore, this fascinating antique ring appears to be hand-fabricated prior to the 1860's, dating it to the very earliest start of the Early Victorian Romantic Period, which began in 1837.
Hence , this piece was manufactured between 1837 to 1860.
