His name means both “Lord of the People” (gana means the common people) and “Lord of the Ganas.” The son of Shiva and Parvati, Ganesha has an elephantine countenance with a curved trunk and big ears. He is the lord of success and the destroyer of evils and obstacles, worshiped as the god of education, wisdom, and wealth. Ganesha is also known as Vinayaka and Binayak.
